The National Police Council has confirmed Mohammed D.
Abubakar as Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
This is long overdue. In my humble opinion, the gentleman
ought to have been confirmed ages ago, and fire put on his tail to rein in the
spiralling violence across the country. Things have never been this bad,
security-wise, and all we had was an Acting IGP who was not too sure if his
butt would be kicked any moment.
Give a man all the authority he needs; allow him all the
confidence he requires to bark and bite, and of course, all the equipment too. Then,
give him deadlines. Produce results or get sacked. You can then actually expect
results.
